Experimental Study on Low-Velocity Impact Performance of GFRP Trapezoidal Corrugated Sandwich Structures

Glass fiber trapezoidal corrugated sandwich structures are composed of cores and glass fiber-reinforced polymer (GFRP) panels. A series low-velocity impact tests were conducted to investigate the resistance performance, considering effects position, impactor shape, diameter on damage mechanism structures. When shape energy remain constant, maximum load at node point is higher than base, while displacement base significantly that node. Secondly, when same, hemispherical requires less penetration structure compared flat impactor. Comparing impactor, it found smaller contact surface more concentrated stress, lower required energy. Finally, as increases, expansion during impacting becomes sufficient, resulting in decreased caused structure.
